Modern Foreign Languages – French

MFL at St Bernard's

The study of Foreign Languages is statutory at Key Stage 2 as it encourages diversity within society, develops an interest in another culture and prepares pupils for a rapidly changing world of work. It is widely recognised that the ability to speak a foreign language promotes initiative, confidence and independent learning and while pupils at St. Bernard’s currently study French, it should be noted that the choice of language is secondary to the lifelong language learning skills that pupils develop.

Children are taught specific skills, concepts and vocabulary in weekly dedicated French lessons which are interactive with visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learning, ensuring progression in the subject and a smooth transition into high school.
