The School Day
School Opening Hours
At St Bernard’s, we want every child to begin their day feeling welcomed, known and ready to learn.
Breakfast Club
Our free Breakfast Club is available to all children from Reception to Year 6 from 8.20am each morning.
Children can enjoy a nutritious breakfast and a calm, friendly and sociable start to their school day. There is no charge for Breakfast Club.
Start of the School Day
The school gates open at 8.40am and close at 8.50am.
This gives children ten minutes to come into school, settle in and receive a warm welcome from the adults who know and care for them.
The compulsory school day begins at 8.50am. Children arriving after this time will be recorded as late in accordance with our Attendance Policy.
Lunchtime
Our lunch break is one hour, from 12.00pm until 1.00pm.
We regard lunchtime as an important part of the school day: a time for children to eat well, develop friendships, play, be active and enjoy being together.
End of the School Day
The compulsory school day finishes at 3.15pm.
Our normal compulsory school day is therefore:
8.50am – 3.15pm, Monday to Friday
This amounts to 32 hours and 5 minutes per week, including breaks and lunchtime.
After-School Clubs
A range of clubs and activities are available after school at different points throughout the year.
Information about current clubs, including days, times and availability, is shared with families. Places can be booked through Ms Kay in the school office or, where available, through Arbor.
We want the beginning and end of every day at St Bernard’s to reflect The St Bernard’s Way: children arriving to a warm welcome, ready to Believe, Grow and Succeed.
