RE

At St. Bernard’s R.C. Primary School we are committed to helping every child to grow and develop in the love of God and others, recognising the unique nature of each individual’s needs. Religious education within our school complements and is underpinned by this mission and, in partnership with home and parish, provides a setting for the development of a sensitive and reflective attitude to life; opportunities for living and sharing our faith with the wider community.

Our rich curriculum embraces our Catholicity at its heart and complies with the Religious Education Directory requirements, allocating 10% of teaching time to curriculum RE in each class. Following the “Come and See'' and the “Caritas in Action” schemes, children will learn the Word of God as they explore stories and passages from the Bible. We will also learn about the beliefs and practices of other faiths, including Judaism, Hindusim, Islam or Sikhism.

Gospel values are built into the fabric of our community, evidenced in policies and procedures of the school. With Christ at the centre of our ethos, pupils are encouraged to show empathy, forgiveness and respect for all.

Collective worship is an intrinsic part of school life, with daily prayers, weekly assemblies, and whole school Mass included in our regular routine. We are actively engaged and liaise closely with our Parish to support children in their sacramental journey. By sharing in a range of Masses, celebrations and acts of worship, we strengthen links between home, school and our faith community.
