Week 1 and 2
A warm welcome back!
Welcome back, Year 6!
It has been wonderful to welcome all of our bright faces back to school! The children have made a fantastic start to Year 6, settling into new routines, embracing challenges and showing us what they can do already. We are looking forward to a brilliant year ahead!
English –The Arrival
We have started exploring The Arrival by Shaun Tan. Linking to our big question, “Who am I, and who am I called to become?”, we have been exploring identity and perspective. The children have used the illustrations to make inferences, share interpretations and think creatively about the characters and their experiences.
Maths – Place Value
We have begun our first Autumn unit: Place Value. We have been working with numbers up to 10,000,000 and developing our understanding of the value of each digit. A key misconception we have tackled is confusing a digit with its value -remember, its position determines its value!
Reading –Goodnight Mister Tom
Our class reading book this term is Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian. Through William’s story, we will explore friendship, courage, belonging, identity and resilience, while developing our retrieval, inference and vocabulary skills.
A Fantastic Start!
Year 6 have already shown great enthusiasm for their learning, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the term brings!
