Week beginning 29th January

As well as a week of SATs practise tests, the children enjoyed art lessons creating pictures using the Chiaroscuro technique. Chiaroscuro comes from Italian, meaning light and dark and a drawing or painting is described as using Chiaroscuro when there is dramatic light and shade as the main feature of the image. Leonardo Da Vinci employed this technique to make objects look more three-dimensional on a flat surface. Using Mayan calendar names, masking tape, charcoal and erasers, the children spent a couple of very messy afternoons creating their own works of art, and in the process ended up resembling overworked Victorian children with their mucky hands and faces!
