Year 6E

Welcome to Year 6E

Miss Etel is the Teacher who will work with the class, supported by our Teaching Assistants, Mrs Frost and Mrs Appleton.

It is hoped that children have consolidated all of their times tables by the end of Year 4, however we appreciate that this proves difficult for some children. At this stage in their education, it is really important that children are quickly able to recall their times tables in order to increase their mathematical confidence and pave the way for the questions they will encounter in SATs and High school. With this in mind, I have sent some children home with a focused times table sheet to practise for a weekly test. I'd be extremely grateful if you could help them to rote learn these and I recommend the following videos on Youtube which incorporate the skip counting method. These songs add a bit of fun to learning times tables and in my experience they are catchy and so speed up the learning process. Thanks for your continued support, here is the link for all of the 'Todd and Ziggy' videos: https://www.youtube.com/results?sp=mAEB&search_query=the+todd+%26+Ziggy+way

Your child will bring home a paper copy of the spellings below to practise (one set per week). Spelling rules will be practised in class and a test will be given each Friday.

Homework - Earn Dojo points for submitted homework.

Reading

It is indisputable that regular reading improves fluency, as well as having a significant impact on your child's writing and comprehension skills.  Therefore, to help improve their confidence and ability, please encourage your child to read every day, for 10 minutes, and record what they are reading in their reading records.

Reading books are to be brought into school and changed once a week, as follows:

Red House - Monday

Yellow House - Tuesday

Blue House - Wednesday

Green House - Thursday

PE

PE lessons take place on Wednesday afternoons. PE kit is provided by school, but please remember to bring a pair of trainers in and make sure you have a water bottle that you can refill.

What a fantastic contribution we made to the 'Samaritan's Purse Christmas Child' shoe box appeal. Our classroom resembled Santa's Grotto, as the children busily packed away all of the toys and toiletries that their families had kindly donated and a prayer was said for each child who will receive one of them. What a wondeful gesture and a true demonstration of God's love. Well done 6E, I'm super proud of you and your efforts!
