Week beginning 3rd October

We had a wonderful afternoon today in Year 4! After learning about where Alexander the Great conquered up till his mysterious demise, we then did an art lesson in sculpting! The children LOVED using a range of different tools to sculpt and create patterns in soap to bring their ideas to life. The room smelt amazing afterwards as well!

Year 4 have had a wonderful class trip today! We visited Manchester Art gallery to take part in an interactive workshop on the battle of Troy, linked to our history unit on Ancient Greeks. We got to analyse different paintings based on the Ancient Greeks, and learnt about different Greek gods. We also got to take part in some drama activities! After lunch, we visited Manchester central library and took part in a workshop linked to black history month and how carnival celebrations have great historical and cultural significance, as well as looking at the colourful costumes, music and dance involved.

For our new English unit, we’ve been researching different types of renewable energy so that we can write letters to our local MP demanding action for climate change!

We really enjoyed our library visit today. We discussed the importance of studying Black History and began thinking about some current roles models and their achievements. We also all chose a book to lend and take back to school with our class library card. Families, don't forget that everyone can sign up for a membership in a Manchester Council library and children can loan up to 8 books at a time! Keep reading Year 4!
