Week 1
Wow! What an amazing first week we have had in Year 2/3! The Year 2's have settled in wonderfully and we are very proud of how kind and welcoming the Year 3's have been. Everyone has had a great week full of practical, fun lessons.
In Art, we have started our unit of craft. We will be linking it to our History unit on Egyptians. We investigated the style, patterns and characteristics of Ancient Egyptian art. The children used a range of mixed media to create their background as Ancient Egyptians didn't create pictures on blank white paper, they used bumpy papyrus so we tried to recreate what that would have felt like. We then looked at a range of Ancient Egyptian art and copied patterns and colours to create our own collages inspired from them.
In Math, we have been focusing on adding two and three digit numbers by partitioning and adjusting. We have used lots of manipulatives to help us develop our understanding through concrete resources, drawings and leading on to the written method.
We also started our new French unit on our school. We learnt about the different things in our pencil cases and then played a game of splat! We then matched up pictures to the correct french and english word,
