In Year 6, spelling is a key focus as it forms part of your child’s writing assessment and is also directly tested in the KS2 SATs Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG) paper. Strong spelling skills not only support your child’s performance in these assessments but also help them to become more confident, accurate writers.

Each week, your child will be given spelling words based on the National Curriculum statutory spelling lists and rules. These lists include important vocabulary that pupils are expected to know by the end of Year 6. Regular practice at home will make a big difference, helping your child to prepare for their SATs and secondary school.
