Week beginning 17th November 2025

This week, we used the Base Ten equipment in maths to demonstrate how and why we regroup when doing addition and subtraction calculations. Next, the children enjoyed playing dice games to generate numbers to add and subtract, deciding whether to use a mental calculation or the formal written method, as well as solving problems with 4-digit numbers.

In Geography, we talked about the different layers of the earth and the tectonic plates of the crust, which fit together like a puzzle. The children then used strips of paper in different colours to represent the earth’s layers and applied pressure to demonstrate how the plates move together and push up to form mountains. Following that activity, the children used the atlases to locate well-known mountain ranges worldwide and in the UK.

Our new science unit is 'The Digestive System' so, before we began, we each had a go at drawing the parts of the body responsible for digesting food. We went on to discuss what actually happens to the food we swallow and learned the names of the different organs involved and their functions. Next, we took a look at our own teeth and learned their names and role in the digestive process.
