Week beginning 20th January

This week has been very 'Art themed' - On Tuesday, Jo the artist led workshops focusing on our chosen artist, Pablo Picasso, and linking this to the Bible story 'Feeding the 5000.' The children worked with Jo, in groups, to create a wonderful piece of 'Picasso-inspired' art and what a fantastic collaborative piece they produced.

Our finished piece of art depicting the bible story in which Jesus feeds 5000 followers with loaves and fishes.

In addition, we researched Picasso and each produced a double page spread. Here is a sample of our finished work...

In our weekly art lesson, we explored how to show tone using charcoal and rubbers - the eraser to ‘draw’ highlights and the charcoal to create darker areas. Next, we looked at ‘The Circus’ which is a paper collage by Henri Matisse (in the ‘fauvist’ style). We learned that Matisse began making paper cut-outs when he wasn’t able to stand to paint and he called his collage style ‘drawing (or painting) with scissors’. Finally, we also ‘drew with scissors’ and created our own collaged compositions... What a busy week!
