Week beginning 28th April

What an exciting 'Maths Day' we've had.... We kicked off with a quick discussion about how often we encounter maths every day without even realising it!

Our first task was to guess how many coloured counters were in the containers. The person with the closest estimate won a prize and this necessitated the children establishing the amounts by sorting and counting in groups of ten.

We then took our learning into the playground, where the children worked in groups to time themselves running around the track and then ordering their data.

Participating in the ring toss game in which they had to record and add their points together...

Playing the 'Dots and Boxes' game, in pairs, to demonstrate our problem solving skills...

The children were presented with different mathematical problems to work on and played a multiplication 'Who wants to be a Millionaire?' game...

The children created a variety of 3D shapes out of sticks and playdough...

The children were tasked to measure the length of the KS1 playground using logs from the forest area. When they ran out, they used their problem solving skills and quickly established that the length of the logs equated roughly to their own length if they stretched out and so they used their bodies to bridge any gaps...

Working with Miss Green and some tasty Rainbow drops to demonstrate our understanding of fractions...

We learned about tesselations, including ones we can find in the natural world such as honeycombs and snake skins made perfectly out of hexagon shapes. Then we created our own beautiful designs...

We even collected data on how long we each took to consume an ice pop, as we cooled off in the forest area...
