Geography Curriculum Intent

At St Bernard’s, our Geography curriculum develops pupils’ knowledge, language and curiosity to understand the world around them. We recognise that many pupils have limited experiences beyond their local area, so we prioritise explicit vocabulary teaching, rich talk, and meaningful enquiry to help them think like geographers. Our carefully sequenced curriculum builds knowledge of place, location, and geographical processes through engaging studies and local fieldwork. Pupils learn to use maps, data, and evidence to describe, explain and question the world, connecting local knowledge to global understanding. By the end of primary school, every child knows key geographical concepts, can use precise language confidently, and values their role in caring for the planet.

Ultimately, our Geography curriculum empowers pupils to see themselves as part of a connected world, with the knowledge, curiosity, and responsibility to explore, question, and protect it.
