Music Curriculum Intent
At St Bernard’s, our Music curriculum inspires creativity, self-expression, and confidence. Recognising that many pupils have limited musical and cultural experiences, we prioritise access, participation and enjoyment alongside explicit teaching of musical vocabulary and skills. Our sequenced curriculum develops pupils’ understanding of pulse, rhythm, pitch, and notation through singing, composition, and performance. We provide regular opportunities for pupils to listen to and discuss a wide range of music, use instruments expressively, and perform with others. By the end of primary school, every child will have experienced creating, performing and appreciating music, developing confidence, focus, and a lifelong love of the subject.
Ultimately, our Music curriculum nurtures confidence, creativity and connection—enabling every child to find their voice and experience the joy of making music.
