PE and Sport Premium

PE and Sport Premium Strategy 2025–2026

At St Bernard’s, we believe that high-quality Physical Education (PE) and sport play a vital role in developing confident, healthy and resilient learners. Our strategy for the use of the Government’s PE and Sport Premium Grant in 2025–2026 is designed to ensure that all pupils have access to an inclusive, challenging and enjoyable PE curriculum, and that physical activity becomes a positive part of every child’s daily experience.

The PE and Sport Premium will be used to:

1. Provide specialist PE teaching from trained sports coaches

We will continue to employ qualified sports coaches to work alongside teachers in delivering high-quality PE lessons across the school. This approach supports professional development for staff, ensuring the long-term improvement of teaching skills and confidence in delivering PE. Coaches will provide a broad range of activities that promote fitness, skill progression, and engagement for all pupils.

2. Implement a whole-school sports strategy within lunchtime provision

A structured lunchtime sports programme will offer every class the opportunity to take part in organised, inclusive activities led by our trained sports coaches and lunchtime supervisors. This initiative aims to increase daily physical activity, promote teamwork, and reduce behaviour incidents through purposeful play and positive engagement.

3. Enhance behaviour and wellbeing through sport

Our PE and sport provision will directly support the school’s wider behaviour strategy by embedding key values such as resilience, teamwork, co-operation, and fair play. Through regular participation in sport, pupils will learn to set goals, manage emotions, and work effectively with others — skills that extend beyond the playground and into all areas of learning.

4. Strengthen community partnerships

We are proud to continue our partnership with Manchester City’s Community Outreach Programme, providing pupils with opportunities to engage in specialist coaching, leadership activities, and inter-school sporting events. This partnership inspires our children to see the value of sport in fostering health, ambition, and community engagement.

5. Ensure sustainability and impact

All actions funded by the PE and Sport Premium are planned with sustainability in mind. Our goal is to ensure long-term impact through staff training, the integration of physical activity into daily routines, and the development of leadership opportunities for pupils.

We will measure the impact of our PE and Sport Premium funding through:
• Monitoring pupil participation and enjoyment levels in PE and sport
• Tracking improvements in behaviour and engagement during unstructured times
• Evaluating staff confidence and skill development in teaching PE
• Reviewing the range and inclusivity of sporting opportunities offered

The PE and Sport Premium 2025–2026 will continue to make a measurable difference to pupils’ health, wellbeing, and achievement at St Bernard’s, helping every child to enjoy being active and to develop a lifelong love of sport and physical activity.
