Week 5
A highlight of the week was one of our, “Teach the Teacher” moments, where students were given the opportunity to teach both the class teacher and their peers what they had learned. This helped to recap and reinforce key concepts while encouraging students to explain their thinking clearly and confidently.
Over the past week, Year 6K continued to build their understanding of fractions, with a focus on multiplying fractions and consolidating prior learning. Students revisited key strategies, including multiplying the numerators and denominators and simplifying the final answer where possible.
One of our students also created a demonstration video showing how to multiply fractions, using the example 5/9 × 3/10. The student clearly explained each step and how to simplify the final answer. Can you work out what the simplified answer is?
This was a great example of peer-led learning and supported our ongoing focus on oracy and confidence in the classroom.
Multiplying fractions = multiply the numerators and multiply the denominators.
2. Multiply denominators → 9 × 10 = 90
3. Simplify → divide both by 15 → 1/6
