October is Black History Month, so this week Year 4 have been busy researching the life of an extremely courageous lady named Harriet Tubman (c.1822-1913). We learned how Harriet escaped a life of slavery in Maryland (USA) to became a famous conductor on the underground railroad, leading many other enslaved people to freedom. She is truly admired for her tremendous bravery, strategy and lifelong dedication to freedom and equality and the children enjoyed producing their own magnificent biographies in recognition of her dedication and resilience.
In our Music lesson, the children had a great time learning about motifs (short, recurring and rhythmic musical patterns) and then playing the (motif) notes to our Roman Invasion song.
