We used scissors to cut the bread and bananas, representing how our incisor teeth bite our food. Then we dripped water into the mix to demonstrate how saliva is added and along with our molars this helped to break down the food before washing it down with a cup of water. Next, our mixture travelled down the oesophagus into our stomach where it was churned with stomach acid (white vinegar) before continuing its journey into the small intestine (tights). Here, nutrients were absorbed into the bloodstream (food colouring in water) and our large intestine absorbed the excess water from the undigested food. Finally - to our delight - we ended up with a great representation of faeces to squeeze out ...Yuk!
In English, we started drafting our narrative based on 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.' We began with our setting description and then worked with a partner to peer assess each other's work, checking for possible spelling and punctuation mistakes and making sure we had written a cohesive piece, including prepositions and expanded noun phrases in order to generate a wonderful image of Narnia in the reader's mind.
